The small museum at the visitor's spot has lots of interesting information, and the woman there is friendly and knowledgeable. The lighthouse tour costs $17, starts exactly on the hour, and the opening hours are 0600-1800. There are easy walking trails as well as tougher ones for people with strong legs and heart. Go on a sunny day for brighter photos, and bring a jacket if it gets windy.

From the high viewpoint, you can take in a huge sweep of open sea and untouched coastline. Below, powerful waves break against dark volcanic rock, throwing up bright white foam along the rugged cliffs. It’s a striking place for photos, sightseeing or just a quiet moment with the ocean.

There’s a lot to explore on the walking tracks, and the views are spectacular. The gardens and paths are very well maintained, and wheelchair access at the top lets you enjoy the views too. Some tracks leading down toward the board walk are steep and uneven, so they may not suit anyone unsteady on their feet. Lovely for keen explorers, though.

The board walk is easy to access and goes right out to the point. There’s plenty of parking, then just a short walk to the lighthouse. The lighthouse keeps residents were very well kept. You can take a tour if you’re up for the steps. Great spot to visit.

We drove along scenic, winding coastal roads with ocean views on the way to Cape Schanck National Park, which set things up nicely for the visit. In the bushland we spotted kangaroos, a magical bonus, and saw the historic Cape Schanck Lighthouse, standing over Bass Strait since the 1850s. I walked down the steps to the rocky shore. The ocean spray, waves crashing against the cliffs and rugged coast made for an unforgettable experience. Between the wildlife, cliffs and pristine shoreline, it’s a peaceful spot with fresh coastal air, great for nature lovers and photographers. I’d recommend going early for a better chance of seeing wildlife and to explore the lighthouse and shore at an easy pace. A real gem on Victoria’s coast.
