North Gregory Hotel

The pub’s history, evening entertainment and general atmosphere were a big part of what I enjoyed. The food and beer were great, and the room was comfortable with everything I needed. There were comfy chairs on the balcony for relaxing too. It did get a bit noisy in the morning, and the curtains left part of the window uncovered, so the room was very bright.

We were stranded in Winton for eight days when floodwaters cut off the town, and the North Gregory Hotel was great value. Irene, Chris and the friendly staff made us feel incredibly welcome, kept us updated on road conditions and anything else we needed to know, and worked hard to keep us comfortable. It felt like staying with good friends. The hotel meals were delicious, first class and served promptly. We’d gladly return and recommend it to anyone passing through Winton. Brent and Cate.

The twin room was simple but comfortable, with its own ensuite, which I don’t often find in hotels. There’s also a lovely restaurant and bar, and our room opened onto a quiet, private shared balcony. My mother and I had to stay here after being evacuated from the Boulder opal during the 2025-26 floods. The owners seem to be a husband and wife team, and they were patient and friendly through a stressful time. The Winton shire council paid for our accommodation, but the managers still patiently answered all my many questions. Mum and I are so grateful for the support and hospitality. Thank you, NGH team!

I didn’t stay at the hotel, but spent some time in the bar to get out of the heat and have a cold beer. The staff were lovely. The building is an interesting bit of history, right on Winton’s main street, and worth a visit. There are beautiful glass etchings by Australian sculptor Daphne Mayo, and you can go right up and touch them.
