Under The Mount

Under the Mount is a real treasure, and Melrose is a wonderful, friendly, beautiful town in an incredible location. The place makes the most of what the town has to offer. The kitchen is extremely well stocked, the outdoor area is stunning, and the beds are some of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The whole stay felt welcoming and easy, and was a joy.

A great quiet location, within walking distance of pubs and cafes. I had a single room, and the cabin was spotless with a very comfortable bed and a much bigger shower than the tiny ones in many cabins. It's a great setup for groups, with a massive shared kitchen stocked with just about every utensil you could need, a gas BBQ, and a nice outdoor area. You can also have a fire in winter.

Don and Kristen are great hosts, and they've set up their unique accommodation really well for visiting cyclists and others. The communal kitchen and dining room are very well equipped and make it easy to meet fellow travellers. Being right under the huge Mt Remarkable adds to the appeal. I keep coming back, and it's one of my favourite places to stay anywhere in South Australia.

We've stayed at Under The Mount before with friends and their children, and enjoyed our second visit, this time with family. Room 2 worked perfectly for our five: the three kids slept in the back on two single beds and a mattress, while we had the king bed in the front room. We asked for the extra mattress for our third child. The grandparents took neighbouring rooms 1 and 3, with king ensemble and twin rooms. We loved ending the evenings around the campfire, and the kids spent hours on the pump track. The kitchen is so well equipped there's no need to bring cooking gear. Don and Kristen checked in now and then to make sure we had what we needed. It's an easy walk to everything in Melrose and to the trails. We'll be back for sure.
