A nice spot across from the majestic Town Hall to have coffee and watch the world go by. But possibly the most expensive coffee in WA/Australia: $15.22 for two mugs, which we hadn’t ordered as mugs. We asked for double shots in two cups of flat white and got hot brownish milk from unsmiling staff, with hardly any coffee flavour or aroma. It was just after 10AM and the pub didn’t serve anything breakfasty either. A disappointing start to our York visit. Maybe we were just too early...

The chilli prawns were super creamy, with a subtle Asian flavour and mild but warming chilli. There were plenty of prawns, and the portion was generous. My friend chose the lamb shank, which came with rich gravy and smooth mash. The meat fell off the bone, and the flavour was bold. We started with light garlic bread, crisp on top and soft and fluffy underneath. We’d made a quick trip to York to see a friend and ended up having dinner at the Imperial Hotel. On a cool, pleasant night, the outdoor lighting looked gorgeous under the sky, and the smell of a wood fire filled the air. Top tier pub food and an incredible atmosphere. A perfect afternoon tea, with a beautiful homemade Macadamia cake and a perfect latte. Definitely coming back!
