GM City Hotel

The receptionists were professional and kind, but that was a bright spot in a very disappointing stay at GM city hotel Baku. My room felt dull, the sheets were dirty when I arrived, the shower was broken and crusted over, and there was visible mold in the bathroom. Water leaked from the washroom onto the carpet, leaving the whole area smelling like drainage. Breakfast was low quality and so repetitive it put me off eating. Many of my complaints were ignored during my stay, so I can’t recommend the hotel in its current condition.

Getting around the city was easy from this convenient location, and the service was smooth. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and well cared for, and the staff were welcoming and helpful throughout. I had a relaxing, enjoyable stay at GM City Hotel and would recommend it.

The workers were really kind and nice, and the hotel is okay if you just need a bed and shower in this area for the money. That’s about all I can say in its favor. There’s a bar and restaurant downstairs on the first floor, and a party went on until 4 or 5 in the morning. Smoke filled the hotel all night, from shisha and cigarettes. I don’t smoke, and even with the window open I couldn’t sleep. By morning I felt awful, as if I’d smoked three packs. They serve breakfast in the same place. I hadn’t paid for breakfast, so I ordered just beef instead, but they kept trying to overcharge me, and did. The waiter was nice, but when the “manager” came, he added coffee I hadn’t drunk and other items I hadn’t checked the prices for. My bill ended up double what it should have been. I argued with him and got it reduced a little, then gave up. The tables were filthy and covered in ash, like they never clean them. Another time, the waiter offered to cut some fruit. I said yes, and he brought one apple, one pear, and one banana, cut up. I was happy with that until the manager charged 30 AZN for the fruit. When I asked why three pieces of fruit cost so much, he said it wasn’t a market. After arguing, he gave me a “discount” and charged 20. At checkout, someone at reception asked me to post a Google review and take a picture of it. Maybe that’s why the rating is 4.4 even though the place isn’t good. There are plenty of hotels nearby, so I’d try those first. The workers are kind, apart from the managers, but the restaurant manager’s behavior, the attempted overcharging, and the smoke at night were all too much. I don’t recommend it.

The hotel and kitchen were really clean, and the staff were very nice. We did have one issue: the bathroom smelled unpleasant because of a drain gas problem. They tried to get rid of it.
