La Casa Old City Hotel

The staff were a huge help when we arrived just before Formula 1, with roads closed and transport around the city centre in chaos. They arranged an airport transfer and carried our suitcases as far as the car could reach. We couldn’t have managed without them. La Casa Old City is in the Old Town, two minutes on foot from Icherisheher metro station and the My Tour travel agency office, where you can arrange excursions. It’s a small, cozy place with antique-style furniture. Nothing fancy, but lovely, and the staff were attentive, polite and helpful. We were very pleased with our stay.

The restaurant has a great view, and breakfast was excellent. The chef was friendly and made delicious dishes himself. I stayed four nights in late April. The hotel is well placed in the Old City for exploring on foot, though finding the entrance may be tricky because it says “Moon Light.” I don’t know if that has since been corrected. Agoda lists a “Moon Light” hotel there, but they say it isn’t their property, even though the photos and location match La Casa.

I can’t recommend it from my experience. The hotel smells damp, and rooms are only cleaned if you ask. Whenever I requested something, they asked for a cigarette or money. I didn’t give them either, and they stopped cleaning and only brought basic items like towels. There’s no address people seem to know, and taxis can’t reach the hotel, so you have to walk the whole way. They ask for money for everything at the entrance, and the breakfast was so bad it seemed fit for homeless people. The service was awful.

The owner, Ruhin, was always reachable, and the staff welcomed us like family, answering any questions right away. They can arrange airport transfers and meet you for the ride. I’d gladly stay at La Casa Old Citi again. I was there over the New Year holidays and loved the location. The metro, historic sites, Baku Boulevard, restaurants and cafes are all within walking distance.
