The outdoor pool is free for hotel guests, though sun loungers cost extra. Reaching it means leaving by the gate and walking out to the main road, since it isn’t part of the hotel complex. The indoor thermal mineral pool, on the other hand, is accessible directly from the hotel. Parking is free and convenient. The pools are part of Terme Laktaši, whose mineral water is known for its healing properties. Hotel San is at Karađorđeva 44 in central Laktaši, around 19 km from Banja Luka. It’s quiet and green, yet close to restaurants and shops. In the morning you can hear birds and church bells. We used the late checkout until 13:00, and breakfast had a wide range of flavors. The building dates to 1982, with renovations in 2008 and further refurbishment in 2015. You can tell the improvements have happened gradually. Reception and restaurant staff were professional, friendly, and helpful.

The pool was decent, and the rooms were clean, but they could use better air freshening. The sauna was only warm, nowhere near hot. The jacuzzi was really dirty, so I wouldn’t use it. I worry there could be some unknown bacteria. I hope the staff do a much better job and that management takes notice. Check everything before spending your money here. I can’t help wondering whether the owner’s government connections mean a sanitary inspection won’t catch them off guard. Who knows.

Dinner was really good, and the indoor and outdoor pools are what might make this a four-star hotel. That’s about it. I booked a suite, but what I got was a double room with an extra single bed, perhaps because rooms are classified differently here in Bosnia. The washbasin tap sprayed water everywhere, the shower had no pressure, and the power sockets didn’t work.

The spa was nice and the hotel itself decent enough, though there was still a faint smell of smoke in the old-fashioned rooms. One breakfast staff member was appallingly rude and unprofessional. There’s no coffee in the rooms, which doesn’t feel like four-star service. It’s reasonably close to the airport, but too far to walk.

Good value and a really enjoyable stay. The staff were very nice, and I especially liked the outdoor pool and spa. The airport is close, with shops, restaurants, and a bus stop just steps away. I’ll come back.
