Hotel Espana

The staff were amazing, friendly and really devoted, which is why I don’t want to be too negative. But the hotel needs serious work and isn’t a 4-star place. We had two rooms, and the bathroom smell in them was atrocious. It was horrible being in the room with that smell, and it made the other problems hard to care about. The rooms looked clean, but the whole hotel needs attention and some renovation. The carpet was bad, beds were worn out, and the towels need replacing. These are all hotel inventory with a short expiration date, yet everything seemed more than 10 years old. It wasn’t necessarily dirty, just overused. I’m not sure if smoking is allowed in the rooms, but they smelled like sewer and smoke.

Ivana and Goran were especially friendly, and the service was excellent. There are various restaurants around the hotel, and breakfast was ample, with a wide range of options for everyone. It’s a little far from the center without your own transport, but you can get there by taxi or bus.

The breakfast was a real highlight, with far more choice than I usually see at nearby hotels. My room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was quiet, too. There was one odd thing: the chair had a huge brown stain, as if someone had spilled coffee on it. I hope that’s what it was. I can’t understand why it was left in the room for guests; I’d have thrown it out. Still, I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel.

A handy place to stay for a business trip. The breakfast was satisfying, and I found a room with a balcony more comfortable. If you have your own transport, getting to different parts of the city is easy.
