Hotel Grand

We only spent one night here before an early bus, and most things were just okay. The room was fairly clean and somewhat updated. The area isn’t great, though it’s a 15 minute walk to the bus station. The WiFi was awful. We had to stand right by the door to get a signal, and it still kept disconnecting. My husband had work calls that repeatedly dropped, so he had to reschedule them. Since we’re traveling internationally and depend on hotel WiFi to avoid using up our eSIM data, this was really frustrating.

The hygiene was genuinely worse than a UK McDonalds toilet. When I arrived, the bathroom had mould, yellow marks and hair in the bathtub, and duct tape wrapped around the shower head. The bedding was awful too: I got only a duvet sheet, not a duvet, and there were stains on both the bedding and pillows. The bathroom towels were stained as well. I didn’t enjoy the breakfast, though other people might like it. Some reception staff were helpful, but most weren’t. They refused to call a taxi bigger than a 4 seater, even though I saw plenty of them in Sarajevo. If you want cleanliness and comfort, don’t come here.

Edi was a highlight of our stay. He was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and his fluent English with a British accent made communication much easier in a country where English isn’t widely spoken. Breakfast was good and offered a nice variety. The room was spacious and had two bathrooms, one standard bathroom with a jacuzzi and one accessible bathroom. The accessible one had a raised toilet, a sturdy foldable shower seat, and a handle. But water drained poorly, which made showering difficult. The bed was also far too low for easy wheelchair transfers, so we needed a transfer board. Getting around in a wheelchair was mixed. There are two ramps at the entrance, but one is steep and not up to standard. My partner couldn’t manage it alone and needed help. The elevator was too small for a power chair, so I had to help maneuver it inside. The hotel is convenient if you’re driving and close to the old town by car, but it isn’t accessible on foot for wheelchair users. We stayed at Grand Hotel Sarajevo for two nights.

We stayed at Hotel Grand Sarajevo for two nights. My room had lovely views of the surrounding mountains, and I appreciated the quieter, more residential part of Sarajevo. The room was comfortable, the hotel very clean and well organized, and breakfast had an amazing variety. Service in the cozy bar area was excellent. I arrived exhausted and hungry very early in the morning after an overnight bus from Belgrade. My room wasn’t ready yet, as expected, but a kind receptionist noticed how tired I was and invited me to have breakfast before it ended. That small gesture meant a lot and set the tone for my stay. I’d highly recommend Hotel Grand Sarajevo for the comfort, cleanliness, and especially the thoughtful, welcoming staff. I’d definitely stay again on my next visit to the city.
