South Gap Hotel

The ocean view from the room was fantastic, and I could see turtles coming up in the morning. The rooms are a good size, and the bed is huge and comfortable. The hotel is well placed in St Lawrence Gap. Its pool is the right size for the number of guests, with padded luxury loungers and, in my experience, always some available. The staff are friendly and helpful, though the bar staff are very relaxed, which could frustrate you if you’re used to quick service. The food was tasty, served in good-sized portions, and reasonably priced.

The best rooms here are the lower-level ones that open straight onto the pool deck. They’re convenient, and the sliding doors lead right to the water. Since those doors are the only windows, the rooms stay dark at night, which makes it easy to sleep. You may hear music from the hotel restaurant in the evening, but it usually stops around 11 pm. South Gap Hotel is a smaller place, but it’s well managed and has a friendly, welcoming feel. It’s right in St Lawrence Gap, close to restaurants, bars, and the beach, yet inside it still feels calm and relaxed. The staff are attentive and professional without hovering, and seem to care about guests’ comfort. The pool deck was fully renovated in October 2024, with new loungers and modern outdoor furniture. Overlooking the ocean, it’s a lovely place to relax during the day or have a drink in the evening. It’s an excellent choice for comfort, location, and value.

The balcony setup is awkward since the AC blows hot air onto it, so you have to switch it off before sitting outside. And if you need to work on holiday, there's no desk. The view, though, is hard to beat, and restaurants and bars are an easy walk away. Service in the restaurant and bar was poor: I sat at a table for 15 minutes without getting a menu, and even after asking the host where to sit, he seemed more focused on a woman at the bar.

There were beaches, bars, and restaurants close by, and I really liked the location. The room's view was wonderful, and the staff made my birthday feel special with gifts and a warm welcome. Had a great time in Barbados and would happily stay again.
