Parva Sed Apta

July 18, 2016. On arrival, the owner alarmed us by saying he suspected there might be a tax inspection, even though we were clearly hikers carrying backpacks. Not long after, we were put in a far-too-small room. The beds were pallet-like frames with thin foam mattresses, and getting up the next morning without back pain was impossible. The bathroom was outdated and tiny, about 2m², and the toilet used foul-smelling rainwater. The towels smelled of cigars, and the room was musty. The breakfast room took me back to my great-grandmother’s time, and the meager breakfast was served with no owner present. Basic things like a hairdryer, makeup mirror and smoke detector were missing. As we left, the owner reminded us to leave our luggage in the room because “the stairs were a nightmare.” I can’t believe this place received his approval and a one-star rating. Maybe it looked a little better at the beginning, as the photos suggest.

We had a lovely holiday and slept wonderfully in this beautiful place. Jozef, who runs everything, is friendly and quiet. There are nice cats and cheerful country pigs, Suske and Wiske.

There are plenty of excursions nearby, and the staff are very friendly. The breakfast is generous and a little different from the usual. This is a peaceful, lovely B&B, and a good choice if you’re after somewhere special. Highly recommended for people of all ages.
