Hotel Acacia

The location is excellent, but the stay didn’t meet our expectations for a 4-star hotel. We arrived around 12:00 pm and understood that an early check-in might not be available. Still, the receptionist simply said no, without checking or explaining, and the dismissive delivery didn’t feel welcoming. When we returned and got into the room, we found one tiny cushion-like pillow, few power outlets and none near the bed, a window that wouldn’t close properly, a very small TV, dirt under the bed and low-quality towels. Check-out at 11:00 am and check-in at 3:00 pm also means the stay doesn’t even reach 24 hours, which feels unreasonable for a hotel claiming 4-star standards. The same receptionist handled check-in and checkout. They were professional, but the interactions left us uncomfortable and reluctant to ask for help. The experience didn’t match the rating, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel.

We left our iPad in the room and only realized after we’d travelled all the way back to England. The hotel kindly posted it to us, which we really appreciated. We stayed for a weekend with friends before Christmas, and the clean, spacious rooms had everything we needed. Breakfast was perfect and started early each morning. We’d definitely stay again.

Raja, who was in charge of breakfast, was so professional. He remembered our room number on the first morning, and when my husband was unwell over the next few days, he gave me a tray to take breakfast up to him. The breakfast was delicious, the bed was a good size and comfortable, and the hotel was close to everything. It’s also the best-smelling hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

The Hotel Acacia is in a great spot, a stone’s throw from the Belfort bell tower and the beautiful square. We visited later in the year, when many shops had Christmas decorations up, and walking around at night was lovely. The hotel has some dated areas, but it’s pleasant overall. Reception is small but works fine for check-in and checkout. Beside it, the bar is nicely presented with plenty of seats, plus a separate area with a piano. We had a comfort double on the first floor. It was clean, the bed was comfortable and the room was adequate, though a few things could be more practical. The only useful outlet was above the desk, so we had to move the kettle there from its spot by the wardrobe. There were no outlets by either side of the bed either, which meant charging phones and tablets at the desk too. On several occasions, an awful sewer smell came from the bathroom. It wasn’t constant, but unpleasant when it did. The main issue happened on our last full day. I was ill and wanted to rest, so we put the do-not-disturb notice on the door. A man still knocked loudly to ask when we’d be out so they could replace the TV. We were told we needed to leave the room for the work. We did, though I really didn’t want to. At reception, the desk staff said we should have been told at check-in that the work might cause disruption. We hadn’t been, and the receptionist apologized and offered a resolution, but having only a couple of days to do the work didn’t justify ignoring the sign. Even with those issues, we had a good stay and would come back. The hotel is clean, has some lovely areas and a comfortable bed. More outlets and a bit of a room makeover would make it perfect.
