The host was there to greet us, and the room was basic but had a good mattress and a good quality-price balance. The location is very quiet while still being close to the center of Bruges, with its bars and restaurants.

Johannes made us feel at home from the moment we arrived, greeting us in person and sharing more suggestions based on what we liked. Even before the trip, he'd sent us beautifully put-together PDF guides with personalized ideas for activities, places to see, and good local restaurants. The house has a warm, distinctive feel, with thoughtful touches throughout. One especially memorable part was discovering Johannes is a wonderful pianist. Listening to him play gave the place a peaceful, almost magical atmosphere, like a cozy sanctuary filled with art. It's comfortable and welcoming, but also full of character and soul. Johannes is a fantastic host, and his home is truly one of a kind.

Johannes, this isn't the way, man. People need safety, a healthy environment, and hygiene. Customer service matters too. This accommodation didn't provide any of that. I'm tired of fake alternative places and people. I had to clean my own room. The sheets smelled awful and seemed almost rotten, and the walls and floor were covered in stains. The host had a shady, creepy attitude. When I arrived, I held out my hand to shake his and he did nothing. He makes weird jokes like, “Can you imagine staying outside for the night?” He plays loud music whenever he wants, doesn't explain how anything in the house works, and goes into my room to rearrange things while I'm away. There was no welcoming attitude. I've couchsurfed many times, and those hosts and places were amazing, even for free. Maybe you should consider not charging people? Once you take money, the people staying at your place are customers, whether you like it or not. Happy life! Edit/answer: Johannes, please, I tried talking to you every time I saw you. None of this is new to you. The pictures are there. If you spend five hours cleaning and the house still looks like it does in the pictures, you're doing something wrong. Good luck, man.

The biggest drawback was the entry system. The doors weren’t locked, and having keys for the rooms would have felt safer, even in a safe city like Brugge. I mentioned this to the host. I only met him for about five minutes, when I picked up my luggage, but he kindly let me leave it there until evening, and I didn’t get any of the weird vibes others described. I was pretty anxious because I read the reviews on check-in day and had expected a nightmare. I’d spent two nights in a five-star hotel in Brugge before coming here, and this was a decent stay. It’s more like a backpacker place than somewhere luxurious, which suited me after I’d overspent on other bookings during the trip. If you’re on a budget and want to be fairly central, it’s a good option. Don’t expect luxury, but don’t let the comments scare you either. I think it belongs on Airbnb more than Booking. Thanks! :)
