Gasthof Groenhove

We stayed in what I think was the family room or suite, and it was clean, comfortable, and roomy enough for our family of five. Even though we arrived late at night, Hans and Angelina were able to accommodate us. Breakfast the next morning was amazing, and the rates felt very affordable for what we got. It’s a lovely little place, close to the historic town but quiet enough for a bit of peace and relaxation. Of all the places we stayed during our three weeks in Europe, this was our favorite. We’re hoping to come back to Bruges this spring and stay here again. I’d happily recommend it.

The room had enough facilities, and the hotel’s location worked well. I booked partly because of the garden, though it was unkempt and could have been cleaner. Breakfast was included but very basic, and the bread and croissants didn’t taste fresh. The hosts could also have been more welcoming and pleasant.

The bed and bathroom were both very large and luxurious, and our host took especially good care of us. It felt like staying in your own comfortable, upscale home, close to Bruges’ culture and architecture without being right in the middle of everything. Local shops were handy, and the old city was a pleasant walk away. A really welcoming stay.

There are bars, restaurants, banks, and a supermarket about five minutes away, and you can catch a bus nearby or walk to the center in around 15 minutes. The garden is well kept, and there’s free parking. If the lot is full, the owner said the car would be safe on the street. He’s friendly and knows a lot about the area, though apparently you’d better leave his coffee machines alone in the morning! The entrance and stairs have an older, quirky feel, while the rooms are modern and freshly decorated, with TVs and very modern bathrooms with plunge showers. They made up the rooms daily and left fresh towels. We had a great stay.
