Hotel Albert

We stayed five nights, and the experience was horrible for the money. The hotel has a main building and a separate “residence,” an old building with awful rooms. The room we saw on Booking didn’t match what we were given. Our first room was dirty and smelled strongly of cigarettes. After we complained, they moved us to another room in the Residence for one night because they said the hotel was full, then expected us to return to the original room the next day. The second room was dirty too, and the water pressure was so poor that showering was difficult. The original room still smelled of cigarettes when we returned, though at least its bathroom had been cleaned. Cleaning throughout our stay was poor. A couple of times we weren’t given fresh towels and were told to wait until the cleaning crew came at 8 a.m. After we complained, the receptionist eventually gave us two. Our key was also deactivated a day early, locking us out of the room. The elevator had no internal door, so you rode facing the walls between floors. We got stuck in it three times. Since our room was on the fifth floor, the only other option was a narrow spiral staircase with a broken handrail. The rail was painted one morning without a warning sign, leaving our hands covered in black paint as we went downstairs. Whenever we raised concerns at reception, we were repeatedly dismissed. I’ve stayed in better hostels than this. Avoid it and don’t waste your money.

For the price, the room was acceptable, though nothing special. Getting our luggage through the very narrow corridor was difficult, especially with cleaning tools and supplies filling it. Both the corridor and reception smelled like cigarettes mixed with sewage.

We left as soon as we checked in and saw the dirty room. The beds and facilities weren’t clean, and we found signs of bed bugs. Being cheap doesn’t excuse a room that isn’t sanitary. Staff reacted angrily and aggressively, told us to go away, and said there’d be no refund. The manager wouldn’t speak to us, so after trying hard to reason with reception, we went to another hotel and filed a complaint to get our money back. The location may look appealing, but the area felt rough, with run-down, damaged buildings. One street away is the red light district, where I felt very unsafe walking as a woman. I wouldn’t recommend it for families. Learn from our mistake.

They let us leave our bags before check-in. We had one queen bed and one single bed for two people. Great hotel, would stay again next time 😁
