BELVUE Hotel

We had a lovely stay, with a beautiful view from our room. The hotel was clean, and the beds were surprisingly large and very comfortable, neither too firm nor too soft. It was a little confusing at first that reception is in a different building from the elevator to the rooms. The walk from the train station felt a bit unsettling, though.

The room itself felt very basic, with unfinished cement and plaster walls, no paint or real decor, and no proper conditioning. The view was unpleasant to us, with Palestine and Gaza posters and slogans around. We objected to the posters and protests, saying Belgium is a Christian country and that people should protest in their own region. The location also felt too far from the town centre, making commuting inconvenient. Our main problem was the front office. Our flight was delayed, so we arrived around 11:30 PM and paid 20 euros to add breakfast for the next morning. The woman on the night desk told us it was served from 7:00 to 10:00 AM. Our 10-month-old baby was unwell and we had a sleepless night, so we missed that window. In the morning we politely asked if breakfast could be moved to the following day. The front desk man with curly hair and a beard rudely refused, accused us of wanting free food, and said we were “playing with the situation” and “begging.” He claimed breakfast ran until 11:00 AM, contradicting what we’d been told the night before. The miscommunication and poor staff knowledge were frustrating, but his disrespectful response made it worse. We felt misled, mistreated, and unwelcome. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially to families.

We’d booked two nights and asked for three single beds, but on arrival there was only one double. After a quick chat, the receptionist added another bed. The room was clean, if a little basic.

The location was handy, with Brussel Midi train station about 10 minutes away by tram and the main sights reachable on foot in 15-20 minutes. Reception staff were very friendly, and check-in and check-out were efficient. I spent a weekend here and would recommend it. The room was spacious, with large windows and separate bathroom and toilet rooms.
