Fred&Breakfast B&B Ghent

The location made it easy to get to nearby sights and amenities, and downtown was just a 10-minute walk away. Parking was another plus: secure and affordable spots were 300 meters away for 6 euros per day, so we didn't have to worry about leaving the car in the busy center. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable, a relaxing place to come back to after exploring. Fred and Lorenzo welcomed us warmly and went out of their way to help during our stay. They also arranged an early check-in when we asked, which we really appreciated. The friendly staff, comfort and convenient location made this an excellent stay.

The owners are lovely and helpful, and the place is clean. All the amenities work, and the guest house feels like a hotel. You also get a private entrance and plenty of privacy. There's a very sweet bar and a garden where you can smoke. Only downside was the flies in summer, they really get to you 😜 Best to bring insect repellent.

The room's design, canal view and location were the reasons I didn't give this a one-star rating. The rest was disappointing. Breakfast is just a boiled egg, so the name feels a bit pretentious. Fred is nice, but also a bit edgy and brusque, which didn't make him an ideal host. The check-in and checkout times are really inconvenient, especially with a big bag. Check-in was at 6pm, though he did let me drop off my bag beforehand. The place is noisy, especially at night, and earplugs are highly recommended if you want to sleep. I stayed for a week and the room was never cleaned. There were lots of mosquitoes too, which suggested a lack of care. Communication wasn't great either. He doesn't reply to emails, so use WhatsApp or call if you need to reach him.

We stayed for a couple of days with our son, and it was a lovely place. Fred, the owner, was friendly and always ready to help or share useful information. The large rooms have a nice bathroom and are child friendly. It’s in a quiet part of the city, right by the river, with a lovely view outside.
