Vakantielogies Cathedral Gent Centrum

The location, rooms and breakfast would normally make us want to return. The rooms had good space, comfortable beds and air conditioning, though we would have liked a mini fridge and a light in the shower. But reception was often unattended and usually closed after 6pm, sometimes earlier, even though apparently at least one worker stays in the hotel. The fire alarm went off twice. One time it took 20 minutes to stop, and the next nearly an hour. There should ALWAYS be someone at reception for emergencies. I was also disappointed that they charged my card when I’d chosen to pay at the property. This experience changed our minds, and we’d take our business elsewhere next time.

Breakfast was included, and it was healthy and tasty. Our room was spacious, with a large bathroom, a shower that worked well and working air conditioning. It was cleaned very immaculately every day. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is a 5-minute walk from Ghent’s historic city centre. I’d stay here again.

The stairs are really steep, so they won’t suit everyone. Our room window looked out onto an awful, ugly backyard, but breakfast was good, with plenty of fruit and pastries. The coffee wasn’t that good, though. The hotel is less than 5 min walking from the city center. We had a problem the first night, but they dealt with it quickly and well by moving us to another, upgraded room.

It felt homely coming back in the evenings to the automatic lights turning on around the hotel. There was a computer downstairs, and the television had BBC 1 and BBC 2. The hotel is old fashioned in a good way, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. We had a nice big room over 2 floors, and got to choose the bed size. They also gave us parking alternatives. I’d only change one thing: the beds could be wider. This felt like a home away from home. I’d recommend a visit, would consider coming back someday, and would give it 4 and a half stars if I could.
