Urban Gardens Gent

The facilities are being updated, and the showers are good with plenty of hot water. There’s a bit of road noise, though it wasn’t too intrusive. It’s a large site with lots of cabins and motorhome pitches, a good bar at reception, and plenty of activities. Ghent centre is a 15-minute ride away.

The location is a real plus. A P&R bus runs into the city centre for just 15 cents return, and reception can explain how to use it. There’s also a cafe/bar with pizzas, local beers and hot drinks at reasonable prices. The facilities really weren’t up to standard during our visit. A newly refurbished block looked lovely, but the block nearest us wasn’t fit for use. Once someone pointed us to it, I was pleasantly surprised that it was very clean and the toilets were fine. But the hot water was missing or unreliable: my three showers were lukewarm, freezing, then tepid, and the washing-up water was always cold. There was no heating, and no outside lights along the paths to the toilets or above the sinks. That’s really not good enough, even if the facilities are due for refurbishment soon. I would stay again, but the owners need enough time to get them up to scratch first.

We stayed at urban gardens for three nights and had a really good accommodation. The staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the location was perfect for getting to gent and bruges. The bunnies around the site were fun to watch too. I’d definitely recommend it.

We had loads of grass to choose from for our tent, and the bar and reception were lovely places to warm up after a rainy day. Having a nice campsite right in town is pretty cool, and I was impressed. The facilities were fresh and clean, though a little busy. They’re renovating more of them now, so even that small drawback should be temporary. Very nice.
