We stayed three nights, and no one came to service the apartment. It’s self-cleaning. Also, the fridge is in the bedroom, and the plants brought insects that bit both of us, so bring repellent if you’re sensitive to bites at night. On the plus side, this quaint one-bedroom place felt like a home away from home, right in the shopping district. It’s decorated in a country cottage style, with a small but nice leafy balcony at the back, and it has everything needed for everyday living. The living space is great, the sofa is super comfy and could easily sleep someone, and the kitchen is well equipped with utensils, crockery, a dishwasher, and detergents. The bedroom is large, the bed is big and comfortable, and there’s air conditioning in the bedroom. Restaurants and bars are very central, with supermarkets a short walk away. Tony and Dina, the owners, are lovely, quick to reply, and flexible about a later checkout. I’d stay here again when I return to Hasselt.

The only things I missed were a sieve and dishcloth; an (N)espresso machine would have been nice too. We parked at Molenpoort garage, about a five-minute walk away. It can be hard to spot from the ring road, so it’s easy to drive past, and the entrance is quite narrow. Parking costs €21 per day. The apartment is right in the shopping street, but there was no noise disturbance at all. The host gave us a very warm welcome, explained everything clearly, then left us to our privacy. The elevator was handy with luggage. It feels like an English cottage, furnished with care and comfort. Everything was very clean, the bed was comfortable, and our request was happily accommodated.

It’s definitely not wheelchair accessible. There is a lift, but reaching it with a wheelchair is difficult. I have a problem with my leg, though I can still walk, and I couldn’t use the shower. It’s a built-in bath with a narrow entrance and a high edge. The owners’ clothes were also in the wardrobe, so we had to keep our own clothes in our suitcases. There was no table or stand for them, so the cases were left awkwardly on the floor in front of the wardrobe, right in the way.

We had a lovely weekend as a couple in this luxurious top-floor apartment, tucked behind the vacant shop in the middle of the shopping street. It’s a hidden gem with every comfort.

The landlords were very friendly, and the place was fully equipped. Everything is close by, and the location is top notch. We had a fantastic stay.
