Chateau Beausaint

We booked at the last minute, so finding this gorgeous, beautifully renovated chateau was a real treat. The hosts and food were amazing. They also accommodated my request for gluten free meals, and we were impressed that much of the produce came from local small producers. We loved our stay.

The rooms were clean and the garden was large and lovely, but the place had little sense of joy. It felt significantly understaffed, as if the aim was to avoid any extra work that might come from guests staying there. The couple running it seemed inexperienced in hospitality and more focused on rules and tasks than the overall guest experience. It might suit corporate events or training, but it falls well short as a leisure stay for families or people with high hospitality expectations. Having travelled to more than 40 countries and stayed in many kinds of hotels, I didn't find it value for money. If you have another option, consider it, especially when travelling with family.

The owner was very rude and shouted at my wife when she asked about room prices. If you're not Flemish, I wouldn't bother. After reading the owner's response, which avoided addressing the criticism that they were rude and unhelpful, I'll leave it to you as the customer to decide whether these people deserve your time and money.

The historic setting and world class food made this a memorable visit. Even the lawn was perfectly manicured. An impressive experience all around.
