Hotel Florent

Room 35 is spacious, has a big bathroom, and was very clean. We did miss a few practical things: there was just 1 small bottle of water for 2 people and no coffee or tea tray, no horizontal rack to dry towels properly, and no sockets near the nightstands. The shower is slippery. The staff are really friendly and ready to help, and this is a great hotel if you want to be near the Grote Markt and other tourist spots.

The location and breakfast were good, but we had an awful stay and I’m worried about the hotel’s hygiene. On our second night we asked for a double sheet to keep the twin beds together. The next morning I woke with bed bug bites, and there were signs all over the mattress and sheets. After I told reception, we were moved to another room, but my girlfriend woke the following morning with even more bites, so we left the hotel altogether. The man at the front desk seemed unbothered and hostile, and accused us of bringing the bugs, even though neither of us had had this problem in the weeks before. He had also been very rude and hostile when I checked in, and other guests I spoke with had a similar impression. The lady working there was accommodating, to her credit. Avoid.

Room 35 was roomy and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fine and had a good variety. But there were only 2 electrical sockets, which isn’t enough for all the things we need to charge now. The bathroom by reception is available, just know the light switches off after a few minutes and the motion detector barely works. Maybe that sounds petty, but for a night or two on a budget, it’s an option. I wouldn’t stay longer.

We were meant to stay 5 nights, but left early because my whole body was covered in bed bug bites. After the first night we noticed bites but thought they were mosquitoes. They got worse each night, so we checked the bed and found bed bugs full of blood in the mattress. The hotel moved me to another room, but the same thing happened there. When I reported it, the male owner was rude and tried to blame me. I did not bring them in, they were already there. They didn’t bother getting anyone in to deal with the problem, and I found bed bugs in the mattress. Rude owner and poor, poor hygiene. Do not stay here.
