We arrived expecting a campsite for tourist vans or motorhomes, but there are only chalets, with no provision for either. The website gives the impression that vans can stay, so don't get caught out as we did. Even the signs on both sides of the gate show a caravan and a tent. If you're heading home, as we were, try Lisle Bergen or somewhere to the southwest instead.

The area is quiet, and Betty is nice, but that's about all I can praise. The rules, restrictions, and checks make it feel like a closed camp. There are only barracks for living, plus a place for children to play. The city is about 3 or 4 km away. Spring and summer are bearable, and the cottages are modest but okay for a few days. Most have a strong damp smell. For some time now, it seems this place has been reserved exclusively for visiting workers. Betty is nice, but only for Belgians and Dutch. Watch out for rats!

The area is really quiet, with Lille (2275) and the smaller town of Gierle close by. Both have restaurants, bars, and a few places to visit, so they're good for a bike ride. The chalets are standard Dutch, or Flemish, style. They're not luxurious, but not the worst either, and work well for workers or a short stay. The rent is double, plus a staycation fee. These little houses are perfectly fine for a few days.
