Grand Hôtel de Flandre

If you're arriving by train, you can't beat this location. The rooms are modern, though the corridors could really use a refresh and the outside has an old-fashioned look. One security concern: anyone can come in at ground level and go straight upstairs, since reception is on the first floor. I guess that reflects a time when security mattered less.

The staff were pleasant and friendly, and helped us sort out a problem with the safe. Breakfast was basic, but there were scrambled eggs and they would refill things if you asked. We thought it was good value. The building feels like it belongs to another era, though the rooms have been refurbished. It's right opposite the station, handy for train travel. Namur itself isn't the prettiest town, but trips to Dinant or Riviere are easy, and you can hike in the Ardenne countryside from there.

Right opposite the station, which made the location very convenient. The reception staff were kind and polite. Steve was especially helpful, even offering to look after our bags well after we had checked out.

The room was fairly modern, nice, and very quiet, and the location would be great for a train trip. By car, though, I wouldn't stay here again. There’s no parking in the building, and you can’t unload in front of the hotel. The discounted Q-Park Leopold is not far away, but it felt rather shady, and our car was opened and robbed overnight. I can't say I was happy with the stay overall.
