B&B landhuis Hauwaart 80

The room was clean, but the chairs didn’t feel very sturdy. We had to eat breakfast at a small table, which was a shame since the breakfast room is such a lovely space, with exposed wooden beams beneath the roof. We weren’t greeted in person when we arrived, just got a text message. The photos show a full breakfast with things like bacon and eggs, but we didn’t get that. Breakfast had been put in our fridge the night before, and fresh rolls were waiting on our doorstep in the morning. It was enough, though. The shower has open glass walls, and the toilet is separated from the room by only a curtain. That was really annoying when we were having breakfast and someone else needed to use it. Maybe it was because we were the only guests 🤨

There are some lovely walks nearby, and it was nice to visit once using Social Deal. For us, though, it’ll be a one-time stay. We had room 70, with a beautiful garden view and little road noise from the main road out front. The owners were very friendly. The bed was comfortable and there was a large TV, but we noticed dust on the lamps and one corner of the room wasn’t finished neatly. The main drawback was the lack of separate shower and toilet facilities. The toilet is in the bedroom, screened only by a shower curtain, so there’s no privacy at all. We ended up using the restaurant toilet downstairs, which wasn’t very convenient. The shower is also in a cubicle in the middle of the bedroom. The owner prepared breakfast, and you could ask for a fried or boiled egg. The white rolls were a bit dry, and the croissants were on the dark side.

The rooms on the street side, facing the N8, do get traffic noise from cars. I understand that guests paying full price get the quieter rooms at the back, though. Even with a Social Deal voucher, we can only say positive things, and we’ll be back. This was our second fantastic stay. Our room was cosy, beautiful, and spacious. The shower and toilet are separated within the room only by a glass wall and curtain, but that didn’t bother us. In the morning, the very nice hostess served us a superb breakfast in the lovely breakfast room, with really tasty bread. When she has to go to work in the morning, the toppings are put in the fridge and fresh, crisp rolls are left at the door. Everything is provided for a delicious breakfast.

The B&B sits on the N8, a fairly busy road, and my room faced right onto it. I’m not used to traffic noise at night, so I didn’t sleep very well. That was my one downside, and unfortunately it isn’t something they can change. The room was clean and nicely decorated, on the first floor. I loved the beautiful bedding, and the king-size bed was very comfortable. The hostess had to work that morning, so breakfast was brought to the room, but that didn’t affect the quality at all. There was plenty, and it was super tasty 👌. All in all, a nice B&B above a fantastic brasserie.
