Hotel la Malle Poste

After a long day of walking, being able to unwind with a swim was just right. The hotel has loads of charm and character, and it's in a handy location.

The room was the only drawback for us. We had a smaller one under the roof and sometimes bumped our heads getting out of bed. The hotel itself was very nice, with friendly staff, a pleasant garden, and a large free car park out back. Breakfast was fine, with fresh orange juice and eggs made to order.

After a day of hiking, kayaking, or climbing, the garden, bar area, and wellness facilities were a lovely bonus. We also appreciated the dinner recommendation and would happily recommend that restaurant to others. Breakfast was plentiful, and we felt really spoiled. We stayed one night at La Malle Poste for our annual team-building trip, not knowing the hotel beforehand, and it exceeded our expectations. The place was quiet, our room was a good size, and the staff were extremely friendly. We'd certainly come back if we're in the area and need a hotel. Thank you, La Malle Poste!

On our return from a day out, after barely sleeping the night before, we were horrified to find the fair was still going. Reception then told us it would run for all three nights of our stay, so we cancelled the third night and were told there'd be no charge. At checkout, though, we weren't given the free breakfast we'd been offered because the pool was out of action, and when we insisted, we were more or less threatened with a charge for that cancelled night. This was our second visit. The first was about four years ago, when a group of around 15 of us stayed for three nights. With new owners, the service now feels appalling. We arrived on a very hot day to find the pool unusable, while a fair on the Main Street right by our window made horrendous noise until midnight. Even though the hotel wasn't full, no other room was offered. We were just told it was the fair's last night, and offered free breakfast because of the pool. The hotel only serves breakfast, and with many restaurants closed for the fair, finding dinner was difficult. The staff were rude and seemed not to care about service, and there was no management on site for us to speak to. To me, the place now has all the traits of being run by a management company. We won't return or recommend it to our group for future stays.
