The squirrel comes by outside the window for breakfast every day, and the concierge was quick to communicate about getting in and out. We only used the ground floor, though both upstairs and downstairs were clean. The house is warm and charming, tastefully and authentically furnished without losing comfort, and the kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of cutlery and everything like that. The garage is handy for leaving muddy shoes after a breathtaking hike. It’s a wonderful place to unwind in one of the Ardennes’ prettiest villages. The best Ardennes offensive 😄

The location is beautiful and the garden lovely, but the cottage could do with a refresh. We stayed in the third week of October and found it hadn’t been cleaned properly: there was a dead mouse in the downstairs bedroom, chip crumbs on the sofa and in several bowls in the kitchen cupboard, and both ovens were dirty. Keep in mind that energy costs are charged afterwards. We paid €60 for one week for two people without using the heating excessively. The owners say that’s normal. The mattress in the downstairs bedroom also needs replacing. I woke up with back pain every morning. This could be a nice holiday home...

There are several hiking trails nearby, and the town centre is a very convenient base. The tourist office in Vresse-sur-Semois has a handy hiking map. It’s an authentic Ardennes farmhouse with a fireplace and a spacious garden, in one of Wallonia’s most beautiful villages. Highly recommended!

La maison des Marguerites is a cosy country house that’s just as charming as its name. It works well for a family holiday or a getaway with friends, and makes a great starting point for short or longer walks through the unique surroundings. There’s everything you need if you want to cook for yourselves, and several bars and restaurants nearby if you’d rather eat out.

Laforet is a pretty village with excellent hiking trails, and we enjoyed having a drink afterward. Two new cafes have opened recently. We stayed at La Maison de Marguerites again for three days with six friends. It’s a beautiful house with a typical Ardennes feel, which we really like, even though the interior isn’t modern. We’re already looking forward to our next stay.
