Enigma Hotel

The owners were so welcoming, and our room was clean and nice. We had a lot of fun, and the beach is an easy walk away. They serve breakfast in the mornings too. Best hotel in Bulgaria, honestly. I’ll be back every summer!

The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and the Wi-Fi worked really well. We liked the garden for a quiet breakfast or a drink, and the owner was helpful and very nice. The hotel sits up on a hill near the main road to Varna and Albena Beach. By car, Balchick Palace & Botanical Garden is about 10 minutes away. You can walk to Balchick beach in around 20 minutes along a path with lots of stairs, though I preferred the roughly 15-minute drive to Albena.

The homemade breakfast is great, so get it if you can. There’s a nearby steak house and a supermarket too. It’s a cheap, nice hotel with a somewhat great view, close to the Gardens and about halfway to Albena, though Balcic is quite far. The bathrooms really aren’t good, and there are only two beds in each room. From most balconies, you rarely get a view of the sea.

We did get a clean room with a good bed, and there’s plenty of parking, though it’s on grass. Finding the place took us half an hour with Waze, and when we arrived at 1 am as arranged, reception was closed, since it only stays open until 20:00. They couldn’t find our booking at first, but luckily someone called the receptionist and we got a room anyway. Call ahead.
