Guest House Anex

We felt safe walking back to the guest house late at night from the bars, and Old Town is a short walk away and well worth seeing. The staff were pleasant, and I enjoyed my stay. It's an affordable spot about a five-minute walk from the main gondola up to the Bankso ski slopes. The rooms are simple but the beds are comfortable. Our larger room slept three and had two bathrooms, a fridge and a kettle. The showers were hot, and there's a room for ski boots and equipment by the front door.

Good value for a skiing holiday, with the gondola just a short 5-10 minute walk away.

The rooms are pleasant enough for the price, which is good value, and the location is OK. The gondola base and ski hire shops felt a bit far when we were wearing ski boots and carrying skis. But our experience with the owners and staff was unpleasant, and I'd avoid staying here. We booked our group months ahead and paid a substantial deposit. They threatened to cancel because the friend who booked hadn't answered emails asking for our arrival time that same working day while she was busy at work. I called to understand what was happening and try to sort it out, but the landlady started shouting from the start. She was so hostile that I could barely make out what she was saying. We also had trouble with the room keys. Three women shared a large room, but we were told there was only one set, even though those keys also opened the hotel's front door and our group wasn't always together. Several times, women were left outside unable to get in, including very late at night. Staff showed no sympathy. One person shouted that we'd lost a second key, although it had never been given to us. This could be a reasonable budget hotel if the owners and staff acted at least semi-professionally, but that would probably take a change of ownership. The hotel's response below is largely false and seems intentional. Its similarly toned replies to other critical reviews suggest it tries to cover up service failures and hostile behavior instead of addressing them. That only reinforces my view that new ownership is needed for this hotel to succeed.

The location is ideal for walking around and getting to know local places, and the surroundings are peaceful. The complex is neat and tidy. Staff were warm, professional, friendly and well organized. The Annex is an excellent choice, with spacious, fully equipped rooms and renovated bathrooms. Guests have also appreciated the balconies. I'm looking forward to staying again over winter break and going skiing.
