Hotel Avalon

I spent three months at this brilliant coliving in the quieter stretch between Oct to Jan. For me, that was ideal. The hotel is warm and comfortable, and I spent most of my stay on the top floor, enjoying the mountain views and sunsets. The three lovely dogs were always ready for affection by the fireplace or to go out for a walk. There were plenty of chances to join hikes, visit thermal spas, share supper clubs, and take part in other activities. I liked that invitations kept coming without any pressure to join. I also volunteered at the local dog shelter during the off season and joined alt space coworking to grow my network. I’d been unsure where to find my next coliving experience, somewhere with a nomad community that was still close to a town or city, and luckily came across Bansko. I can’t recommend the opportunity and community enough. Thank you Dani and James 🥰

After my first amazing month at Avalon, I came back for two more months, then returned again for another two. When I first arrived, they said everyone comes back, and after just five minutes I didn’t really get it. I do now. Dani and James are wonderful and make you feel at home. It’s super cozy, the rooms are really comfortable, and the kitchen has everything you need. The town centre, Sunday market, mountains, and nature are all just a stone’s throw away. The atmosphere is amazing. I made so many friends, and even found my boyfriend there. Can’t wait to return!

I came to Avalon twice this year, in Spring and Summer, and will definitely return when my schengen visa allows. Of all the colivings I’ve tried, I haven’t found better value for money. Since it used to be a hotel, the living and coworking area, kitchen, and rooms are spacious. Both rooms I stayed in had amazing views, as in the photos, and I could get my work done easily. I don’t ski, so I visited out of season. The town was much quieter, which I liked, but there were still quality cafes, food shops, restaurants, and a gym with mountain views. My biggest highlight was the walking trails through the forest, river, and mountains, just a 15 min walk away. Dani and James have made a really positive, welcoming place and were always supportive with local questions and advice. There are hikes, community meals, and events you can join, with no pressure to do so. And as others have said, you really need to like dogs here :-). The three gorgeous dogs have different sizes and personalities, and you can play with them, cuddle them, or take them for walks.

The thing that makes this such a great place is the genuine welcome. James and Dani bring real human and canine warmth, along with plenty of wit, intelligence, and practical support. They seem to attract similarly lovely people. The practical side is great too. You’re in the heart of Bansko, minutes from the gondola, restaurants, supermarkets, good coffee, bars, and fantastic mountain hiking trails. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, there’s a well-stocked honesty bar, lots of room to work, and a professional-level kitchen. This must be one of the world’s best digital nomad coliving places.
