Royal Bay Resort

We left Royal Bay Resort certain we wouldn't return. It may be by the sea, but the hospitality felt like a desert. Staff were dismissive, the food was questionable, and the rules were bizarre. Communication was hard because most staff didn't speak English, so interactions felt like charades with Google Translate. We also couldn't smoke in the open-air dining areas. Bulgaria doesn't ban outdoor smoking, but Royal Bay chose to be stricter than the law, which felt like a lesson in pushing customers away. The beachside bar served alcohol in flimsy plastic cups. When I asked for a proper glass to take to our room, I was told no. I eventually got one, but only on the strict condition that I return it, as if it were priceless. The food was a repeating menu of the same old dishes, looking as though they'd been carried over from previous days. I didn't take photos, but my appetite took one look and gave up. The ingredients seemed cheap, the taste was bland, and there was no obvious pride in the kitchen. We had a sea-view room, technically, but from our first-floor spot the restaurant roof took up most of the view. I asked reception to move us and was told the hotel was full, though perhaps something might open tomorrow. When I asked them to check, the receptionist said his colleague would do it the next day. Apparently nobody on duty had a special license to look in the booking system. Then there were no towels. I was told they'd been overwhelmed with tourists and hadn't had time to wash any. Some turned up eventually, along with a lecture to guard them like family heirlooms and hand them back when we left, so we wouldn't be treated as towel thieves. What sort of guests do they expect? From the moment we arrived, every reasonable request got the same unwavering no. If Royal Bay Resort is trying to redefine hospitality, it has certainly managed the opposite.

Hello everyone, here's my review of the hotel overall. I'd give it 5/10. There are a lot of downsides, and the biggest is the beach area. If you leave your things on a sunbed or by an umbrella to save a spot, other visitors may simply throw them away and put their own things there. You can end up with neither a place on the beach nor your belongings. The beach itself isn't cleaned. People who eat or drink there don't seem to understand that they should at least throw their plastic dishes away. Room cleanliness was another major problem. It seemed our room wasn't cleaned at all, apart from the rubbish being taken out and toilet paper being brought in, and even that wasn't done regularly. Our room wasn't cleaned on two of the six days.

I stayed at Royal Bay Resort Balcik for a week, and it fell well short of what I expected from a four-star resort. The all-inclusive food was poor quality, repetitive, and short on variety, which really affected our meals. There were no entertainment programs or activities at all, though I expected some enjoyable, relaxing events at a resort like this. We also had to pay a weekly parking fee. I didn't think it was justified, since the parking area wasn't properly arranged or guarded, and I felt uneasy about the security of our vehicle. These issues seriously affected the value for money and didn't match the standards a guest should expect from a four-star resort. Please consider this complaint and take steps to improve these areas for future guests. I also expect a response explaining what you intend to do about them. Thank you for your attention.

The food was good and there were vegetarian options, though it wasn't anything extraordinary. That was the one thing that kept this from a five-star stay. We loved the clean, comfortable room and its magnificent view, and the staff were polite and keen to help. The private beach is small, so finding a spot in peak season could be difficult. We were there in September, so it wasn't a problem. We had a lovely late summer break, even in the hotel's final days of the season.
