Struma Pernik

It feels like an old Soviet-era hotel. There’s no air conditioning, and the restaurant music is so loud you can’t sleep. You can’t buy breakfast either. I’d give it -3 stars.

I stopped here on my way to Sofia, and I think we were the only English people in the whole city. Not many tourists seem to come here. The reception staff didn’t speak English, but luckily the porter did. From outside the hotel looks derelict, though it’s OK inside. The rooms are very basic, but the beds were pretty good and the shower worked well, so I was satisfied. It’s a little pricey for what you get, but there’s only one other hotel on the outskirts of town.

This hotel still feels like a place left over from the communism era, with barely any renovations. The prices don’t match what it offers. The owner seems to just collect the income without investing, like Bulgarian owners in general, and I guess they’ll hand it over to the next person when the time comes. Definitely not recommended.

Right in the middle of the city center, with parking available. Even without the hotel parking, it’s easy to find a spot. The rooms are fine for a small city, and the service is mediocre, nothing special. If all you need is somewhere to shower and sleep, it’s totally fine, but don’t expect more.
