Marina Beach Apartments

The apartments feel seriously overrated for what they cost. I’m not convinced the rating is genuine.

The location and furniture are good, but there was no hygiene at all. I only saw the reviews here too late. We stayed in the same building as the “reception”. They took payment but gave no receipt. When we asked for a note, they wrote one by hand. The parking is municipal, so nobody guarantees a space or helps you find one. The apartment looked fine at first, then the problems became clear. The oven didn’t work and hadn’t been cleaned since its recent use. There were no dishes, and nobody cleaned or even changed the bins during our four days there. We had a small child in diapers, so I took the rubbish out myself. Ants were everywhere, not just in our apartment. Maybe the poor hygiene is why the whole building is full of them.

The beach is about 50 m from the apartment, no more than a three-minute walk. That’s where the good points end. We were unhappy with Marina Beach aparthotel, and I’m sharing this so other people aren’t misled. There’s no proper address for the place. On arrival you have to register at a reception somewhere else, but there’s no information about which office handles bookings or which hotels it covers. They take your money at the door, and nothing is in order. Our room hadn’t been cleaned, and nobody came during our four-day stay. We were four people in an apartment advertised for four, with a bedroom and sofa bed, but had to hunt for sheets and pillowcases for the sofa. The bedding had dirty stains, and there were blood marks on the pillowcases. The shower hose was cracked and leaking. There were no mosquito nets, and the air conditioners wouldn’t cool the rooms. We called hotel staff to check them. They thought they’d fixed one by lowering the temperature and turning up the fan. The other unit ran for a while, then made a terrible noise and threw out ice. We had a small baby with us, who was frightened. Staff asked someone to call and look at the units twice, and promised to send help, but nobody ever came. We also got stuck in the elevator. Maybe that wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but when we called the elevator maintenance people and told them where we were, they said they couldn’t find us without the correct street because the aparthotel had no street address. When we asked for the address, we were told it was nearby but wouldn’t appear on the map. We were grateful the power came back quickly, as we were trapped inside with two small children. The photos look lovely, but the reality is completely different.
