We were hungry on the drive back from the monastery in mid-October and had found so many places closed. Then we spotted a roadside TROUT sign and decided to stop. It turned into our best meal in Bulgaria: a warm mountain atmosphere, excellent bean soup, grilled and fried trout, tasty mashed potatoes, and one of the best crème brûlées we've had. The chef served us himself and was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

The quiet, peaceful feel of the area made our stay a real pleasure, and I hope I can return. The hotel is in the Rila mountains, near Rila Monastery and the cave of St Ivan. The family running it were so pleasant, and every day began and ended with a smile. I felt right at home, enjoyed delicious home-cooked food, and had a clean room that matched the photos and had everything I needed for travelling. They communicated clearly and on time, and were especially helpful when I arrived. Nothing was bad about the experience. I could go on and on.

The rooms were warm and cosy, with hills outside and the faint sound of bells from animals up on the slopes. It felt like a perfect mountain stop, with traditional Bulgarian style. We had mountain tea with homemade honey in the morning :)

The buffalo milk dessert really tasted of buffalo milk, and the meal after our visit to Rila was excellent all around. Food, atmosphere and service were great, and everything came pretty quickly. We had a good time and are planning to detour here for lunch again.

The garden is especially lovely, and the room was roomy. Really good food and very friendly staff too. I'd definitely recommend staying overnight.
