Hostel Ruschuk

There’s no lift, and my room was up and down a few stairs. The hostess was kind and spoke some English; she showed me where to go. My bed was comfortable, and the cupboard had lovely wool blankets. The Wi-Fi worked fine on my first night, then went off at midnight the next one. The hotel is close to the river, a little west of the centre. A couple of convenience shops and a bar are nearby, and Sapiens cafe is only a few hundred metres away. My room was mostly beds, with an air conditioner I didn’t need. The bathroom and utility area, with a fridge, sink, and desk, were shared with one other room. The man staying there snored, and I could hear him through the wall.

The room was so bright at night that streetlights came through the curtains, and I could hear people in the hall and outside. It was noisy all the time, so I didn’t get proper rest. The furnishings and bathrooms were in really bad shape. I know it’s sold as a hostel, but the place felt wrecked. At least the sheets smelled good and the staff were helpful. A night in a double bed cost 40 leva. That’s about all the good I can say.

The location was the only decent part. My bed sheets had stains, and the bathroom in my “apartment” was so filthy, with moss all over it, I can hardly describe it. The rooms looked like they hadn’t been cleaned properly in years. I paid 40bg for two nights for myself and my 4kg dog, and it felt like a robbery. Nothing else to add. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

On my second visit, we got an apartment with two rooms, one for two people and one for three, sharing a “kitchen” and bathroom. The kitchen was just an old, smelly fridge and a sink that was hard to turn because it hadn’t been maintained. The floors were very old boards, cracked, bulging, and ugly. There was a TV, though I never used it. The beds were okay and the staff were nice, but there was no internet on the first day. My first stay was better. There were two of us in a room for two, and it was okay, even with air conditioning at that low price.
