Complex Koko Hills

For a longer vacation, this seems like a nice place to stay, since the apartments are spacious and pleasant. The thermal spa and sauna were very relaxing, and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Two meals are included at no extra cost. Breakfast was pretty good, while dinner was just okay. The main downside for us was how hard the beds were.

The spa is right there, so there’s no need to go elsewhere. The sauna was easy to use and very good. There’s a salt room, though we didn’t try it because it was cold and we were wet from the sauna. The pool has mineral water that’s somewhat warm, not what I’d personally call hot, plus jacuzzi bubbles you can switch on with a button. There’s also a separate pool area for kids. The view was great, and you can drink clean Rila mountain water from the sink in your room. Our room was somewhat clean. The floor by the bed and in the bedroom wasn’t clean, while the rest was perfect. It also got very warm inside, and we couldn’t see a clear way to turn the temperature down. Everyone else in the building seemed to keep their windows open all the time, probably for that reason. When we were trying to sleep and relax after breakfast, someone kept pulling the doorknob to see if it was locked, about every 20 minutes, four or five times in a row. They never knocked or said anything, just quietly tried the handle as if to get in. I wondered what would have happened if the door had been unlocked and they’d come in while I was in bed, not very dressed, with my girlfriend nearby. I didn’t check, but I’d guess it was the young cleaning lady, since there were cleaning noises around then. This was on 13 February, ap. Masilini 2, between 10 and 11:30 AM. We could also hear noise from the stairs because the door didn’t block it well.

We stayed outside the busy season and found it a great choice for a budget holiday. It’s a small family hotel with friendly staff, and the apartment, restaurant, salt room, sauna and pool were all clean. The pool is small, so I can imagine it getting crowded when the hotel is full during peak season.

The location and thermal pool were the good parts. The sauna wasn’t working, and the jacuzzi was dirty, in a small room with no windows. The bed linen had stains, and the bed was a little uncomfortable. Staff didn’t speak English. They also tried to charge us for something from the fridge that we hadn’t consumed. Check the little wine bottles to make sure they’re unopened and not filled with water, or they may try to charge you 10 Lev.
