Astoria Grand Hotel

The bathroom and shower were nice, but the old carpet and two small single beds felt like they were from communist times. The staff weren't welcoming, and the hotel's atmosphere didn't feel good. It didn't feel safe at all.

For a hotel advertised as four stars, this place fell well short. The rooms were average, housekeeping didn't come every day, and the bins by the entrance were usually overflowing. Reception staff could be more polite. Most evenings there were lots of murky-looking men and women dressed obscurely coming into the hotel. I probably won't choose it next time I'm in Sofia.

We were here for two nights on a tour, July 10-12, 2025. The room was comfortable, but our safe didn't work. We reported it and were offered another room or a repair the next day. We chose to wait, but it still wasn't fixed. Breakfast was good, with plenty of options and decent machine coffee. The staff there were friendly, though very busy. At Alegro Lobby Bar, the woman working was extremely rude, even though I asked nicely, and she left ingredients out of the cocktails listed on the menu. She treated several people in our tour group that way. Because of her, the service gets two stars.

The hotel was generally nice, but breakfast was a poor experience. Tables weren't being cleared, so it was hard to find one without food left by previous guests. The satin chairs were stained too. You could see where something had spilled on the seat or someone had touched the back with a dirty hand. Awful.
