Central Plaza Hotel

We ended up leaving without a refund after being told to go, with the manager saying on speakerphone that the police would pick us up if we stayed. It all started when we arrived and noticed a musty smell in the hotel. Room 102 was about five times worse, and the bathroom was covered in mold. We complained and were moved to room 202. The receptionist said it was their last available room, but that one was even worse, with mold on the window frames, ceiling, and throughout the bathroom. We took our suitcase back to reception. The woman there seemed unable to understand why we weren’t satisfied and said there were no other rooms. Then, after a phone call, she suddenly offered room 504, saying it was our final chance. It had the same problems, including black mold all over the bathroom. She became aggressive and threatened to call the police, then called the manager. We didn’t want to risk getting sick. If these rooms count as “normal” to them, I can only wonder about the kitchen. Stay away from this filthy hotel, unless you want health problems and to wake up with mushrooms growing on your forehead.

The receptionists were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was okay for what we paid. The hotel is right in central Sofia, with plenty of public transport options. But the room was disgusting at first sight. The closet was screwed up and kind of dry-soaked, and both my room and my friends’ rooms had mold. I’m definitely not coming back.

The staff are really nice and helpful, and you get good value for the money. There aren’t any major downsides unless you’re expecting a luxury hotel. Check-in is only around 14:00, but they let us leave our bags at reception.

We had a perfect location for our time in Sofia, clean rooms, a delicious breakfast, and very friendly staff. The coffee was 5* too. Amazing place to stay, I’d recommend it to anyone.
