Coop Hotel

The location is great, but the bedding was really uncomfortable and the hotel didn't meet the standard we expected from a four star stay. Our large double bed booking turned out to be two single beds pushed together, with separate blankets and one small pillow per person. They had no larger duvet when we asked, only individual ones. The air conditioning also caused some trouble and was controlled at the reception desk. Breakfast was quite basic, and the ratings on Booking and Google don't seem to match the experience we had.

My experience with Mariana at Hotel COOP Sofia's reception left a very bad impression. I called to ask for ice and was told, rudely, that they don't deliver it to rooms and I had to come downstairs. I said I'd received ice in my room the night before, but she hung up on me. In the lobby, I said her behavior was unacceptable and an apology would be appropriate. She didn't apologize, saying she was too busy and there were too many guests, even though the lobby was empty. She dismissively asked if I still wanted ice. When I requested her supervisor, she acted as if she didn't understand. She eventually brought a little ice in a paper cup, then only brought an ice bucket and tongs after I insisted. That's far below what I'd expect at a hotel of this category, supposedly four stars. I won't stay here again. The facilities are average at best and don't justify the price. Parking is the one real advantage, but it costs an extra €12 per day.

The location is excellent, the staff pleasant, and you can use the sauna for free. Parking costs extra, while breakfast is mediocre to poor for a 5* hotel. The windows are so badly adjusted they might as well not be there, with all the street noise coming into the room. At 115€ for a double, it felt a bit pricey for what we got. I'd call it a 4+ star hotel, or a 5- if you prefer.

We arrived late, expecting parking because it was listed when we booked, but there were no spaces available. At 1 o'clock at night we had to look for a spot ourselves, with no help or clear directions from the hotel. Breakfast was very poor, and although the hotel seems to have been refurbished, it still feels old. They gave us just one key, and the lift won't work without it. With a family, whoever takes the key downstairs leaves everyone else in the dark, so you have to ask for a second one. In an emergency, you can't use the lift without a key either. I don't recommend it. I'd suggest Maison hotel in Sofia instead: clean rooms and a really good breakfast. Just watch the pricing, since you may be asked to pay more on site.
