Juno Hotel Sofia, a Member of Design Hotels

The city-center location was great for walking to Sofia's main sights, and Vitosha Boulevard is only a five-minute walk away. We enjoyed our stay and would book again, especially with so many cafes and restaurants nearby. We had room 44 for two nights, a modern corner room with a balcony. The bathroom was spacious, with huge, comfy towels, and even had a music station you could switch on or off. The hotel feels modern. When you enter, you see the bar and restaurant looking over the reception, since there's no separate lobby. The staff were very friendly. The night-out windows were nice. You can hear cars at night because it's central, but it didn't bother us too much.

The hotel is right in the center, just a short walk from lots of the main attractions. We loved staying here. The staff were amazing, attentive and helpful, and the design is beautiful. Breakfast was delicious: there's a small buffet as well as a dish you can choose from the à la carte menu. They also offer tea, coffee or freshly squeezed juice.

The cot was already set up when we arrived, and it was an impressively high-spec Bugaboo. They'd also put nice toys in the room, plus special toiletries for kids and a tiny bathrobe in the bathroom. My wife and I were travelling with our one-year-old son, and I've never had this level of thoughtfulness at a Marriott. At most of their properties, it's a miracle if the cot is there even when I've asked ahead. That extra care was off the charts, and it's why Juno feels a cut above the rest. I'm a Marriot Bonvoy member and have stayed at quite a few properties. This is easily one of their best. The hotel is modern, the restaurant is great, and the beds are comfortable, as at many Marriott hotels. Juno is now the only place I'll stay in Sofia.

We came to Cuckoo restaurant for breakfast after Anne at the elder place recommended it as somewhere open by 7am. Finding the entrance was difficult because it blends into the wall. We stood there for over ten minutes without anyone acknowledging us, though a few staff looked our way. I said hello to a waitress and got only a stare. A man serving the bar said hello, then went back to cleaning glasses without helping. The receptionist looked up from the laptop and still nobody served us. The atmosphere felt obnoxious and appalling. It ruined our morning, especially since the other local restaurants have been so welcoming. I wouldn't recommend it. As a tourist, you'd be better off supporting locals than going somewhere so pretentious.
