Hotel Lion Sofia

We arrived in Sofia and were met with a shocking scene. We asked for clean sheets without hair or dirt, and the manager accused us of lying despite the photos we had. I’ve never encountered anything like it. He became aggressive and disrespectful, then threatened to throw us out when we understandably got upset. The cleaning staff seemed afraid of him, and he even lets his dog into guest rooms. The cleaning staff and front desk employee were professional, though. We accepted a cash refund because we weren’t at home and didn’t want trouble at the hotel. I’ll report the incident to the authorities. This behavior is unacceptable for a 3-star hotel, and he should be disciplined. There are many negative comments about him, and Booking wasn’t surprised when I called.

All we wanted was a clean bed. We found hair, including pubic hair, under the sheets and asked for fresh bedding. The manager responded aggressively and humiliatingly, insisting, “if you don’t like the hotel, leave,” though we never said that. He forced us to leave and claimed he had reported the situation to Booking.com, which was a lie. The staff seemed uncomfortable and avoided eye contact. The manager showed no professionalism or care for guests. A good first impression was completely ruined. He has no place in hospitality. Avoid this hotel.

The room felt a little cramped, and there’s no parking at the hotel. It is a good walk to an Ottoman Masjid, though. They could also be more familiar with decent halal restaurants.

The rooms look great, the staff are great, and the location is excellent. I took off a star because breakfast is at the neighboring coffee shop, where both the menu and portions are limited.
