Park Hotel Amfora

The garden is amazing, with beautiful trees all around, and the atmosphere feels magical even though you're only 10-15 minutes by car from central Sofia. I'd definitely come back. We needed somewhere nearby while our apartment was being renovated, and we could bring our cat here. That was a big challenge, since 99% of hotels didn't want a cat, so this was our only option. I'd read the negative reviews, but the hotel is very warm and should be fine even in cold or winter weather. The furniture is old but in good condition. I'd rate the room cleaning 7/10: there was some dust under the bed, which my cat took care of, but I let the owners know and I'm sure the cleaner will take note.

The rooms were filthy and freezing, with no air conditioner available. We were given a small electric heater, but the woman told us to turn it off later and use the blankets because she was paying the electricity bill and said it was too expensive. The toilets were awfully dirty, and the sheets and towels were disgusting. I assume they hadn't been changed since the last century. I think even staying in my car would've been better.

The exterior looked nice, and the location was fairly nice too, so what we found inside was surprising. The rooms were plain, old, badly dated, and poorly maintained. The coffee wasn't complementary, and it was the worst we'd ever tasted. The owner explained that coffee was getting really expensive.

The location and price are good, so it might do for a night if you're just passing through. The place is old and smelly, and the washrooms weren't the best I've seen. The owner speaks a few words of Romanian and a little English, that's about it. She did help us order a pizza, though it took 15 minutes to translate everything. The pizza was delicious!
