Slavyanska Beseda Hotel

It's an older hotel, but they keep it maintained. My medium-sized room had a double bed, and the small bathroom was clean. The location is reasonably good, with a tram just yards away and a bus a few steps from the hotel. Prices are fair. Check-in took a little while, but the receptionist was smiling and helpful.

Room 205 was immaculate, with a minibar fridge, TV, air conditioning, and nice beds. Receptionist Diyan was especially friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the best part of Sofia's Center, within walking distance of the attractions and parks. I had a great time here, thanks to the hotel management!

The receptionist was extremely unpleasant. Respectfully, he smelled like he hadn't showered in a week or two, and there was a brownish stain on his pants. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Being close to Sofia's sights is handy, and the staff were polite, friendly, and seemed willing to help. Reception staff also speak English. I didn't eat at the hotel restaurant because there are plenty of restaurants within a short walk, plus a small supermarket 50 metres away and a Lidl about ten minutes along the main street. Parking is scarce on the surrounding streets, and illegal parking can get your car towed. The hotel has paid parking, but spaces are very limited and a bit pricey. My top-floor room had a large balcony, but the room itself was tiny and badly in need of refurbishment. It looked a bit dirty from wear and tear, especially the single bed, which sagged badly. I complained and someone came to fix it, but I couldn't tell whether they did anything, and it still hadn't improved. I ended up using my dog's crate mattress to support the middle. The room was basic, with a TV, a small fridge stocked with drinks and snacks, and complimentary tea, coffee, and a kettle. Heating came mostly from the air conditioner, with very little from the radiator. The private bathroom was clean, practical, a little more spacious, and had a steady supply of hot water. The old elevator still works. The hotel is functional and acceptable for a short stay, but it badly needs a major refurbishment. Its central location and pet-friendly policy are its biggest strengths, though the 25 BGN per night pet charge seems a bit expensive. My experience at Hotel Slavyanska Beseda was just okay. I find former communist countries from the defunct USSR a bit lacking in hospitality and friendliness.
