The rooms are usable but really dated. The service was great, and the hotel's restaurant had excellent food. There were also lots of adorable kittens on the outdoor terrace. It's centrally located and has a river view.

Lovely welcome from the reception ladies and the piccolo guy!

Mehana Troyan, part of Troyan Plaza, had some of the best food I've tried lately. We picked several freshly made dishes from the daily menu and they were all delicious. The garden is lovely, and the place is laid out in traditional Bulgarian style. Our waitress was extremely kind. The value was great compared with restaurants in Sofia. Highly recommended, and I can't wait to return.

The attached restaurant was the best part of the place. We had a nice breakfast buffet, and even caught some of the World Cup on the patio beside the river. The hotel was comfortable, though the room was really dated and the bedding felt scratchy and uncomfortable. The bathroom had been nicely updated, with some good finishing touches.

The location is good and there's a river view, but this is an old hotel. Our safe was ancient and broken, and the rooms weren't clean to standard. The restaurant hosts parties on Friday and Saturday, with loud music continuing past 22:00, so it was hard to rest. We asked for our room to be cleaned while we were out, but housekeeping never came.
