Hikers Hostel

The terrace has a beautiful view over the cozy town, and it’s a nice place to chat with other backpackers. Breakfast there was pancakes, melon, roasted bread with cheese, yogurt, and musli. The staff were lovely and friendly, and at 10 euros a night for a dorm, it’s super cheap for such a great place :)

We had a great stay, and Radu was a wonderful host. The location is great, and there’s everything you need: an accessorised kitchen, a washing machine, and two bathrooms with showers that always had hot water (!!) The beds are a bit old, though.

A real Bulgarian experience, with friendly people! The house is beautiful, the staff are professional and welcoming, and the facilities are clean and comfortable. It’s in a great location and has a lovely view of the forteress. Such a good place for backpackers in Veliko.

The climb is worth knowing about: from the old town center, where buses and taxis usually drop you, it’s a small but steep five-minute hike up to the hostel. Once there, the high position gives you a great view of the castle, and if you’re lucky, you can see the light show around 9pm. The outdoor terrace is lovely for sitting around and meeting people. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful, and often organize things like picnics and bbq parties. I wanted to join the UFO(buzludzha) tour on arrival, but it hadn’t been operating for a while because their car was broken. They helped a group of individual backpackers get together and rent a car instead, which was cheaper and more flexible. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed was comfortable, and the simple breakfast of bread, jam, and butter was included in the price.
