Tsarevets Residence

We didn't stay. We only went to see the place, then left. People writing all those glowing reviews either aren't being honest or haven't stayed in a good hotel. Calling this listing misleading is putting it mildly. The vendor's description mentioned a private bathroom, balcony, garden, landmark, city and river views, an outdoor dining area and patio, and said the whole unit was on the ground floor, with upper floors reached by stairs. We chose the “Studio with Terrace, Entire unit located on ground floor.” What they called ground floor was actually underground, reached by a steep ladder about 3 meters high, like one on a WWII military ship. Getting a large suitcase down would be difficult. The room is a finished basement with no windows. A door opens to the “Balcony” or “Patio,” where the listing promises those views, but next door there's a partly demolished, dilapidated abandoned building that may be occupied by homeless squatters. That feels like a serious safety issue. The owner said there hadn't been any incidents in the past year, but there's a thick iron door as a precaution, I assume. In the picture, the “Landmark view” is on the far left, the ruined building in the center, and the iron door at lower right. The parking directions point to a nearby street but leave out the steep 300-meter uphill walk to the hotel. We had to stop several times to rest. I booked through Booking, and this is the third time I've found one of their listings deceptive. They don't seem to check the facilities they advertise. In all three cases, they were the only company listing the place, which is something to consider.
