The Red Konak

The sunrises and sunsets were beautiful, with the light falling across the interiors so nicely. We only had 2 days, which felt too short, and we’d love to return if the host will have us. Red Konak is an old place with loads of character, but it was warm, cozy, comfortable, and well managed despite being 200 years old. My friend booked it on AirBnB, and it’s one of the best homes I’ve stayed in during 12 years of B&B trips.

Parking was the main hassle. The streets are narrow, as you’d expect from roads made for traffic two centuries ago, and spaces nearby are scarce. There’s one spot right by the house, but it’s difficult to get; the closest place where you can semi-reliably find parking is fifty meters up the steep street. Even so, the house and city views make the trouble worthwhile. It’s an authentic old house converted into a two-story guest house, furnished for families. The kids were especially taken with the toys, board games, and indoor swing, and talked about the place for a month after our stay. The passcode lock also meant we could avoid handling keys and direct contact if we wanted.

Everything had been thoughtfully prepared before we arrived, and the landlady was friendly, helpful, and never intrusive. We loved the house. It works well for any kind of group, whether family or friends. Highly recommended!
