Hotel Barriere Le Carl Gustaf St Barth

My junior suite was lovely, and the harbor view was beautiful. But some key details about the hotel caught me off guard. Formerly Le Carl Gustaf and now Fouquet Saint Barth, it sits on a hill overlooking the harbor and is the nicest hotel closest to town. There’s no pool unless you book a villa with one, and the beach club is a three-block walk to a public beach. They didn’t tell me this until after the fact, and I might have chosen somewhere else if I’d known. The brochure photos can give a misleading impression, so I’d recommend asking them directly what to expect before booking. BeefBar, the main restaurant, is lovely, but the menu is mostly meat, so choices are limited. Service on my first night was poor, even though the restaurant was only half full.

Gustavia looks its best from the breakfast view here, and the atmosphere is lovely. The food has a great variety without offering so much that choosing gets confusing. The crew were superb, attentive, professional and friendly, and everything felt beautifully managed. I enjoyed breakfast at the Carl Gustaf so much that I returned the next day with my mother. A must if you’re in Saint Barth.

When our travel plans fell apart, the team helped save my dad’s birthday. They were resourceful, sincere and so thoughtful, and I’ll always be grateful to the concierge team and staff. Special thanks to the manager Nelly, Clemence and Batiste. We visited some other top hotels on our short trip, and I’m so glad we picked this one. It’s central, an easy 10-minute walk to Gustavia port and the island’s best shopping and action. It’s the only 5 star resort in Gustavia. Our room, the food and the stay were perfect. We’d return without hesitation. Blessings forever to this staff.

The town was easy to get to, and the exclusive beach club added comfort and ease to the trip. Beefbar was a highlight, with delicious food and fantastic views that we’ll feature in our marketing materials. We were on our first visit to St. Barth, and the warm hospitality and beautiful property made it special. The luxurious 2-bedroom Prestige Suite made our stay even better.
