Grotto Bay Beach Resort Bermuda

The room could use some updating, but we barely spent time in it, so that didn't bother us much. The rest of Grotto Bay Resort made for a wonderful stay. The pool and beach were spotless, and the bar service was quick and friendly. We were on the All-inclusive plan and really enjoyed both restaurants. Andi, our waiter, went out of his way to look after us and treated us like family. We were sorry to leave and especially sad to say goodbye to our new friend. Grotto Bay gave us bus and ferry passes, and the bus stop is right at the end of the driveway. We had a great visit and are already planning a return.

The food was the highlight for us. I've stayed at other all-inclusive resorts, and the quality here felt a step above, more like fine dining. The spa is set inside a cave over the water, and there's another cave where you can swim. We also got cheese and crackers and a congratulations card for our honeymoon, a lovely touch. We went to Grotto Bay last week for our honeymoon and had a great time. The location is very convenient, close to the airport without much airplane noise. There's a bus stop right outside, and our all-inclusive package included bus and ferry passes. We could walk to some attractions. Taxis were always on site, so leaving was easy, we walked out the front door and found one waiting. The beds were comfortable, and most rooms have an ocean view. A couple of the bartenders were rude. My husband tipped one, and he didn't say a word, and at times it felt like we were bothering them. Our room had no extra blankets, pillows, or water bottles. When we called to ask for those things, we felt like a bother. I would've rated the resort 4.5 if that were an option, but I rounded up to 5. I'd have liked more nightly entertainment, maybe a show. Still, I'd recommend it.

Getting here is easy, a taxi from the airport takes about five minutes and costs 12USD. The staff are top notch, and the resort is clean and sanitary apart from the pool. The rooms let the place down: the beds are very uncomfortable, and the A/C is loud enough to make sleeping hard. Chickens and roosters roam around the resort, too, and their noise carried through the night and into early morning.

The rooms were clean, the view was great, and the facilities were nice, but I felt nickle-dimed. We checked out at 11:15 pm with permission, just 15 minutes past the usual checkout time, and I later found a $27 charge on my card. I'm still trying to get someone to return my call. I rented two rooms of the same size, but one had a daily $13 room gratuity fee and the other was $26 a day. Water wasn't provided without a fee, and our room had no Kleenex. Breakfast at the bar was self-serve. The only service was paying the bill, yet we were charged a sizeable gratuity for the gentleman who rang up the food. He did nothing else, and I don't think he earned that larger gratuity.
