Ritz Apart Hotel

We stayed three nights, not in a row, and had two different rooms. Both were large family suites with plenty of space. The first had a very strong cleaning smell, so we opened all the windows to air it out, which we could thankfully do. The second room didn't smell that way. The staff were very helpful, breakfast had lots of options and was more than adequate, and both the coin laundry and laundry service worked great when we used them.

I don't understand how this hotel got five stars. The room was nice and clean, and the bed was big and fine, but the bathroom was cramped with nowhere to hang towels. There was also nowhere in the room to hang a coat or leave shoes. We asked for a few breakfast items because of our special diet and were completely ignored, even though we'd been told we'd get a vegan breakfast.

The location is outstanding, and the facilities and housekeeping staff meet five-star standards. The Ritz Hotel has the potential to reach that level, but the service needs a lot of work. During our five-day stay, most staff, including the front desk, doorman, and restaurant employees, seemed disengaged and inattentive. On arrival, the doorman didn't greet us or offer help with our luggage. At breakfast, which was included, there were no non-dairy options for cereal or coffee, and restaurant staff didn't greet us and generally made us feel ignored. We rented the Presidential Suite. It had been beautifully upgraded, but lacked basic touches for a five-star stay: no welcome fruit or note from management, no robes or slippers, and just one complimentary bottle of water. The note saying extra bottles would cost more felt tacky and cheap for a luxury hotel. At check-in I said I planned to pay cash. They had my credit card on file but still insisted on charging two nights in advance, then refused to reverse the charges. That's far from the service I'd expect from a property calling itself five-star. I hope this feedback helps the Ritz improve and eventually earn the status it aspires to. I had a pleasant stay, and the hotel is nice, well located, and has friendly staff. But judged against five-star hotels, I can only give it three stars. It lacks services that many four-star places offer, and the internet was very poor. I stayed twice in different rooms and had the same connection problem both times. If they fixed the internet and positioned themselves as a four-star hotel, I'd give them five stars.
